A 16-year-old female was shot in Tallaght yesterday. The victim has been named as Melanie McCarthy.
At approximately 10:35 pm, McCarthy, from Drumcairn Avenue, Tallaght sustained serious injuries when she was shot as she sat in the passenger seat of a silver Nissan Almera.
She was taken to Tallaght Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her body has been removed to the mortuary at Tallaght Hospital for a post mortem examination and the State Pathologist has been notified.
An incident room has been set up a Tallaght Garda Station and investigating Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
The scene is preserved pending a full technical and forensic examination.
