Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl at Brookview Way, Tallaght are appealing to the public for information. The incident occurred on Tuesday the 7th of February at 10.30 pm.
Melanie McCarthy was a rear seat passenger in silver Nissan Almera which was parked on Brookview Way. A black Hyundai Santa Fe SUV/Jeep 07-D registration pulled along side the Almera and at least one shot was fired, killing McCarthy.
The Hyundai Santa Fe left Brookview Way and turned right onto Fortunestown Lane in the direction of City West. A few minutes later it was found abandoned on the roadway close to Brownsbarn.
The victim was driven to Tallaght General Hospital in the Nissan Almera and was pronounced dead at 1.15 am. A post mortem examination is being carried out at Tallaght General by the Deputy State pathologist, Dr. Khalid Jaber.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Brookview Way, Fortunestown Lane or Brownsbarn areas either before or directly after the shooting to contact them.
