Customs officers at Dublin Port have seized around seven million contraband cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €2.7m.
The cigarettes arrived in Dublin Port from Zeebrugge in Belgium in a shipment described as “non-hazardous groupage”.
An Irish-registered commercial vehicle and trailer were seized and the driver was interviewed.
This seizure brings the total number of cigarettes seized by Revenue this year to 66 million, with a retail value of €28m.
Revenue say investigations are ongoing nationally and internationally.
