Body found in suitcase from young woman from Malawi

The woman whose remains were found yesterday in a suitcase on a Dublin street was in her 20s and from Malawi. It is understood she was strangled or suffocated.

She had been studying here for around two years and had a last known address at a flat in Rathmines.

The woman’s remains were found by a passer-by on Blackhorse Avenue at about 8.30am yesterday.

It is understood she was strangled or suffocated on Saturday. Her fully clothed body was then put into the bag, which was then walked to where it was found near some wheelie bins.

It is believed the suitcase was left on Blackhorse Avenue sometime before 7 pm on Saturday evening.

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have any information in particular anyone who may have seen unusual or suspicious behaviour in and around Blackhorse Ave or North Circular Road yesterday the 28th January 2012, to contact them at the Bridewell Garda Station on 01-6668200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
