Christopher Payne – Assaulted in Dublin, 1988
Name: Christopher Payne.
Date of incident: May 13, 1988.
Details: Payne was attacked in his home, at 82 Rutland Grove, Crumlin, Dublin 12 by four people wearing balaclavas and armed with hatchets and hammers. He received serious head wounds as a result of this attack. He was treated in hospital for his wounds but never recovered from the injuries inflicted. The 52-year-old man six months later in November, 1988.
In 1989, Jessie O’Dwyer, 19, of Saul Park, Crumlin, and Stephen McKeever, 18, of Dromard Road in Drimnagh, were jailed for nine-and-a-half years each for their role in the 1988 attack. They claimed that Payne’s daughter and wife offered them £3,000 to break into their home and kill Payne but to make it look like a botched robbery.
