A jury has been sworn in for the trial of a man accused of murdering a child in Wexford seven years ago.
Philip Doyle, 34, of Tinakilly, Aughrim, Wicklow has pleaded not guilty to murdering Ross Murphy at Creagh Desmesne, Gorey, Wexford on April 5, 2005.
Ross Murphy died in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital after he had been transferred there from Wexford hospital.
A post mortem examination subsequently identified the baby had sustained ‘certain injuries’ of concern.
Doyle fled to Amsterdam where he previously lived and was subsequently extradited.
The jury was told the case which is due to last four weeks concerned “the death of a child”.
The trial is due to start at 2 pm before a jury of seven men and five women presided over by Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy.
