Family of 3 Rescued by Newmarket-On-Fergus Garda

According to breakingnews.ie – A family of 3 has been rescued after a single vehicle collision today at approx 2pm. The car lost control and struck a wall, turning on its roof.

The car was overturned at Ballycar on the R470 Newmarket-on-Fergus to Sixmilebridge road in Co Clare. Smoke was seen coming from the front of the vehicle as the couple and their baby was trapped inside.

Garda Declan Fawl, based at nearby Newmarket-on-Fergus station, was first to see the crash and helped the passengers leave the vehicle before a fire occurred. Two units of the fire brigade from Shannon Town put out the fire and concluded that just the engine had been ignited.

Ambulance crews on the scene confirmed no one was harmed or injured.

A Garda spokesman confirmed: “Gardaí were alerted to a single-vehicle road traffic collision at Ballycar, Newmarket-on-Fergus and the local patrol car responded immediately. Garda Declan Fawl discovered the car on its roof with smoke coming from the engine. He helped all three from the car through a rear door shortly before the car went on fire.

“We commend Garda Fawl for his bravery and quick actions and we are thankful that no-one was injured,” the spokesman added.
