Man stabbed to death in Cork city

A man has been stabbed to death during a fight in Cork city in the early hours of this morning.

The 31-year-old victim, who was a local man, died from stab wounds to the chest at Cork University Hospital after he was rushed there by ambulance.

A man and a woman, both in their 20s, were arrested close to the scene and are being held at the Bridewell Garda Station in Cork.

The incident happened at Infirmary Road shortly after 2 am, yards from Garda district headquarters on Anglesea Street.

The man was attending a party in the South Terrace apartment complex on Infirmary Road close to the city centre.

A row developed in the apartment and spilled out onto the street, when the man was stabbed.

The area has been sealed off this morning, pending a forensic examination.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone who may have information to contact them at Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 – 4522000.

This is the second stabbing incident in Cork city in fewer than 48 hours.

A man in his 30s remains in a serious condition after being attacked in Fairhill on Friday afternoon.
